The severe damage caused to Swisscom's mobile and fixed networks by the floods is being repaired and Swisscom Mobile network coverage is once again comprehensive. Transmission paths are up and running in all the affected areas, thanks to backups in the cable network and the use of directional radio.
In the Bernese Oberland, the exchanges at Oey Latterbach, Boenigen and Wilderswil are still under water. The exchanges at Zwischenflüh and Lauterbrunnen-Wengen are still without electricity. In Simmental, a fibre optic cable was damaged by a landslide. A total of approximately 4,200 connections were affected by this damage.
In Central Switzerland, the exchanges at Grundhof (Emmenbrücke, Canton of Lucerne), Melchtal (Canton of Obwalden), Neuschwändi (Engelberg, Canton of Obwalden), Melchsee-Frutt (Canton of Obwalden), Unterschächen (Canton of Uri) and Rynacht (near Schattdorf, Canton of Uri) are not yet operational. The Bristen (Canton of Uri) exchange may be back in operation again today on a temporary basis. A total of 1,800 lines remain dead.
In Eastern Switzerland, the Weesen (Canton of St. Gallen) exchange has been repaired temporarily. Around 150 broadband connections are still down. Due to a damaged fibre optic cable, a further 950 broadband connections in Landwassertal are out of action.
