Swisscom Mobile now offers 21 TV channels

31 August 2005

Swisscom Mobile has expanded its offering of TV channels for mobile phones. NATEL® customers can now choose from 21 TV channels on Vodafone live! and watch TV anywhere in Switzerland.

In addition to the main private German channels (RTL, SAT1 Schweiz, PRO7, VOX, RTL2, VIVA and N-TV) ARD and ZDF can now also be received. The offering is complemented by the international channels CNN and RAI UNO. With the channels that have been available since November 2004 (SF1 and SF2, SF Info, MTV, Eurosport, TSR 1 and TSR2, TF1 and TSI1 and TSI2), Swisscom Mobile now offers over 21 channels, which are arranged on the user's mobile phone according to the portal language setting.

Charges for Live TV remain the same: If you just want a quick look at the day's events, an hour's viewing will cost you CHF 1.50. Anyone wanting to watch a football game followed by all the match reports and interviews, for example, can watch Live TV the whole day for CHF 4. The best choice for regular viewers of Live TV is the monthly subscription, which offers unlimited access for CHF 16.

Only available throughout Switzerland with Swisscom Mobile

Swisscom Mobile's Live TV service has been available on UMTS-compatible Vodafone live! handsets since November 2004. The new transmission technology EDGE now makes it possible to receive Live TV outside built-up areas too - exclusively from Swisscom Mobile. A prerequisite is an EDGE-compatible handset. EDGE technology is based on GSM and is available throughout Switzerland (99.8% coverage).

More than 40,000 NATEL® customers are already using UMTS, and around half of these regularly watch Live TV on their mobile phones. Eight devices currently support mobile TV:  Nokia 6680 (UMTS/EDGE), Nokia 6230i (EDGE), Motorola V980 and Motorola V1050, Samsung Z500, Sharp V902, SonyEricsson V600 and SonyEricsson V800 (all UMTS). And the range of compatible devices is being constantly expanded.
