This asset deal comprises the telephone systems and IP communications platform business segments, related applications and services as well as the integration, operation and maintenance of data networks. The move will allow both companies to further build on their strengths in the area of convergent communications solutions for business customers in Switzerland. Swisscom Solutions will be able to increase its expertise in the planning, installation, operation and maintenance of companies' in-house voice and data networks while Siemens provides support for these products and concentrates its resources on both expanding current solutions and developing innovative new solutions. The transfer of certain data network experts to Swisscom will also allow it to expand its integration know-how. Siemens Switzerland will continue to employ a core team of voice and data specialists with a proven track record to handle complex integration solutions.
The closer cooperation will allow both partners to optimize the value chain while keeping a clear focus on relevant core competences. All in all, 120 service and sales employees will switch from Siemens Switzerland to Swisscom Solutions. This transfer will ensure that existing customer relationships can be continued seamlessly and that all projects being planned or already in progress will continue to be handled by the same specialists in the future, as well.
The expansion of Swisscom Solutions' activities will strengthen its position in Switzerland's highly competitive market for enterprise networks. No changes will be made to products currently in Swisscom Solutions' portfolio and Swisscom Solutions will continue to offer and provide support for the same products made by leading enterprise network system manufacturers.
Siemens Switzerland will remain active on Switzerland's enterprise network market and will concentrate on implementing complex integration solutions for certain large customers. Large international companies and customers from the security and directories segments as well as sector-specific multimedia applications will still be taken care of directly by Siemens while SMEs will be advised by certified channel partners and distributors, just as they have been as in the past.
"Even today, Swisscom and Siemens are already winning nine out of ten joint projects. This positive experience has prompted us to work together even more closely and more successfully," stated René Fischer, CEO of Swisscom Solutions. "This move will let us provide our customers with even more comprehensive, top-notch communications solutions," explained Philippe Voirol, Executive Vice President Information and Communications at Siemens Switzerland.
