Luzerner Kantonalbank selects Comit to operate its future IT platform, Avaloq

28 April 2006

The Luzerner Kantonalbank has commissioned Comit AG, a subsidiary of Swisscom IT Services, with the operation and application management of its new banking platform, Avaloq. Winning the contract will allow Comit to further expand its position in Central Switzerland.

The Luzerner Kantonalbank (along with the Thurgauer and St. Galler Kantonalbank) signed the contract with the Zurich banking software provider Avaloq on 20 December 2005. Over the coming years, the three cantonal banks will use the Avaloq Banking System as the central platform for handling their business operations.

The current platform was operated by Swisscom IT Services until the end of 2005. Comit became a subsidiary of Swisscom IT Services this year and is responsible for the marketing and extended operation of application management and infrastructure services as well as providing support to the banks along the entire added value chain.

For Bernard Kobler, CEO of the Luzerner Kantonalbank, there were three reasons for choosing Comit as the provider: "First, Comit boasts a large number of Avaloq-certified specialists, thus ensuring access to a wealth of expertise. Second, the long-standing cooperation can continue with the new IT platform, which, in the ongoing migration process, reduces the project risk. And third, with Comit we benefit from good price-performance."

Comit, a specialist provider of IT services for the financial sector, has a 400-strong workforce and a network of local support teams in all regions of Switzerland. Winning this contract from the Luzerner Kantonalbank will strengthen Comit's Lucerne operations.
