The two service companies Accarda and MediData are to intensify their cooperation in the healthcare sector. The move will allow MediData to incorporate Accarda's receivables management products (collection, billing management, bill handling) in its portfolio and thus enable it to offer its customers in the healthcare sector an extended range of billing products.
Accarda already transfers bills electronically to health insurance companies connected to the MediData network. In future, MediData customers will be able to transfer their bills for collection management to Accarda. Together with its subsidiaries Billag and Medipa, Accarda AG, a subsidiary of Swisscom AG with headquarters in Brüttisellen, handles 25 million bills a year. Accarda has already established a foothold in the healthcare sector, having acquired Medipa Abrechnungskasse AG in July 2005. Medipa has been active in healthcare billing for doctors, chemists and hospitals for over 25 years.
MediData's most important offering is the provision of electronic billing services via MediPort, an electronic platform for exchanging data between service providers (doctors, hospitals and laboratories) and cost bearers (heath insurance providers, insurance companies and Switzerland's National Accident Insurance Organisation SUVA). With MediPort, MediData operates the biggest network for electronic bill transfer in the Swiss healthcare sector. In 2005 over 10 million bills were sent via this network for automatic processing by the cost bearers. MediData has a workforce of 35.
