Since the launch of the Vodafone live! multimedia platform in 2003, 1,000,000 Swisscom Mobile customers have opted for a Vodafone live! mobile. As well as the successful 100-second news broadcast "SF Tagesschau 100 Sekunden", Switzerland's largest mobile operator offers services such as live TV broadcasts, sports updates, entertainment, games and ringtones on the Vodafone live! portal.
Barely three years after the rollout of Vodafone live! in Switzerland, the multimedia platform is celebrating its one millionth customer. "We are delighted at the enormous success of the Vodafone live! portal. Vodafone live! represents a colourful world of interactive multimedia which users can access from their mobile phone anytime and from anywhere. We're talking here about a camera mobile, gameboy mobile, info and entertainment mobile, all combined in one easy-to -use device," says Edi Bähler, Executive Board member responsible for marketing and sales at Swisscom Mobile.
In the past year alone, Swisscom Mobile has massively expanded the portal's content. The most recent launch, specially designed for broadband-enabled mobile phones, is a 100-second news broadcast launched in conjunction with the Swiss television channels Schweizer Fernsehen ("Tagesschau 100 Sekunden") and Télévision Suisse Romande ("TSR Le Journal 100 secondes"). In little over a month the service had attracted over 40,000 subscribers, making mobile TV the most popular application on the Vodafone live! portal - ahead of mobile game and ringtone downloads.
Some 16 state-of-the-art Vodafone live! mobiles are currently available, including the top-selling Nokia 6234, the Sony Ericsson K800i and the LG KU800. The range is continually being updated. Swisscom Mobile has just launched the first HSDPA-enabled mobile, the Motorola V3xx, which promises fast data connection speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps.
The repurchase of Vodafone's shareholding in Swisscom Mobile will not affect the future design of the Vodafone live! portal. Swisscom has entered into an exclusive cooperation agreement with Vodafone with a view to a long-term partnership.
