Press release

Swisscom to reduce call fixed-to-mobile charges by up to 12%

Berne, 09 March 2007

On 1 May 2007 Swisscom will reduce its rates for calls from the fixed network to the mobile networks of Swisscom Mobile, Orange and Sunrise. The price reduction for calls to the Swisscom Mobile network is 2 cents per minute. Charges for calls to the mobile networks of Orange and Sunrise will be reduced by 5 cents per minute. With this move, Swisscom is passing on to its residential and business customers the reduction of up to 12% in the transit charges of mobile operators.

The termination or transit charge is the fee that telecommunications providers have to pay to have calls completed on a mobile network.

Having already lowered its charges for calls from the fixed network to the Sunrise and Orange networks in October 2005 and July 2006, Swisscom is now passing on the reduction in transit charges to its customers.  Calls from the fixed network to the Swisscom Mobile network, including M-Budget, are being reduced from 41 to 39 cents per minute standard rate and from 31 to 29 cents per minute off-peak rate. Calls from the fixed network to the Orange and Sunrise mobile networks, including Coop Mobile, will now cost 44 cents per minute standard rate (previously 49 cents) and 34 cents per minute off-peak rate (previously 39 cents). The standard rate applies Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm; the off-peak rate Monday to Friday from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, as well as on weekends and general public holidays.

Termination charges for calls to the mobile network of Tele2 and other Swiss mobile networks will not be adjusted, as these charges remain high.
