Floods in Switzerland: restricted telecoms services
Berne, 09 August 2007
The floods in Switzerland have led to restricted availability of fixed and mobile services for our customers in some parts of the country. Thanks to the use of emergency generators and microwave radio, many communications links could be maintained.
The following locations have been hit by damaged cables and various minor disruptions:
Canton Lucerne: Kriens, Ballwil/Inwil, Sursee.
Canton Nidwalden: Stans, Stansstad.
Canton Zug: Cham.
Canton Berne: Bolligen, Lützelflüh-Goldbach, Stettlen.
Canton Zurich: Stallikon, Dietikon.
Canton St. Gallen: Tübach.
Canton Aargau: Staffelbach.
Canton Freiburg: Treyvaux (La Roche).
Specialists from Swisscom, Cablex & Novonet are working round the clock to repair the damage and restore services. Further cable outages can be expected in the next few days due to the flooding and possible landslides.
