Press release

Connect 1144 becomes 1811

Berne, 26 September 2007

The directory enquiries service 1811 and the operator service Connect 1144 can now be accessed on a single number: 1811. 1811. The current Connect 1144 number will be permanently disconnected on 30 September 2007 in line with the provisions of the new Ordinance on Telecommunications Services.

Swisscom's directory enquiries service 1811 can now connect you too, a service which was previously only possible on Connect 1144. If you want to be connected, just tell the 1811 operator. Alternatively, you can press key 5 while the number is being given to you, or say the word "connect". This service is especially useful when you're out and about, as you don't have to write the number down.

The 1811 service can now be accessed by SMS too. Send an SMS giving the person's surname, first name and location (for example Muster Max Berne) to 1811 and straight away you will receive an SMS with the subscriber's details (available to users of other mobile phone providers from 1 October).

The Connect 1144 operator service has to be discontinued due to the new Ordinance on Telecommunications Services, which stipulates that all information services must begin with the digits 18.

Calls to 1811 are subject to a connection charge of CHF 1.50. The first minute costs CHF 0.50 and each additional minute costs CHF 0.08 (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) or CHF 0.04 (5 p.m. - 8 a.m.). Calls to mobiles on Swiss networks cost CHF 0.50 per minute. Calls made on a NATEL subscription are subject to a mobile surcharge of CHF 0.30 per minute, and those made from a Swisscom Prepaid card (NATEL easy) to a mobile surcharge of CHF 0.80 per minute. An SMS directory enquiry costs CHF 0.80.
