During the UEFA European Football Championship Swisscom and Medgate will jointly offer visitors, fans and helpers free medical advice around the clock. This special offer is not only valid on match days, but during the entire duration of the UEFA EURO 2008TM. If you suddenly become ill or feel unwell in unfamiliar surroundings, you want to consult a professional doctor and get treatment as quickly as possible. A medical problem can often be solved in a quick and straightforward manner without actually needing to visit a local doctor.
As national supporter and official telecommunications provider of UEFA EURO 2008TM, this service is one of the things Swisscom will be advertising at its service points within the fan miles of the four Swiss host cities.
There are two stages to the medical advice service: a telemedical assistant takes down details of the patient's problem and arranges a callback. Within a very short space of time, a Medgate doctor will call back to advise the patient and initiate further steps if necessary. Consultations are available in German, French and English. Italian and Spanish are also available for callbacks.
Doctors offer advice to patients with acute or general health issues and are available around the clock from any telephone on 0844-help-08. Callers get reliable, professional and efficient recommendations as to the best possible medical treatment. This can range from self-treatment, a trip to the chemist, GP or specialist, to hospitalisation. If need be, Medgate doctors can take immediate measures such as alerting an emergency doctor. The high quality of the service is the result of a combination of specially trained staff and effective information and communication technology.
Swisscom has held a 40 per cent stake in Medgate Holding AG since February 2006. The purpose of the investment is to develop and promote comprehensive telemedical patient care in Switzerland. Some 2.6 million people already have access to Medgate's telemedical services through their health insurance. Customers whose insurers are not Medgate partners can take out an affordable membership directly.
