Ice hockey is all about speed, excitement and emotion - and thanks to the high championship level, the sport attracts a wide audience in Switzerland. As a local company, Swisscom will be supporting this major event in its home country from 24 April to 10 May 2009.
Swisscom has many years of experience as a reliable telecoms partner of major national and international events. This year, Swisscom successfully mastered the football European championships. Swisscom provided the four Swiss venues with the very latest communications infrastructure, enabling viewers and organisers to communicate with each other all over the world and creating many unique moments. The Swisscom media centres were the workplace for more than 7,000 media representatives and enabled the whole world to participate in UEFA EURO 2008TM. "Our partnership with the 2009 IIHF World Cup will be along similar lines: as telecoms partner, we will ensure that fans, journalists and event organisers in Switzerland are connected to the rest of the world and can communicate quickly, in real time and on a global scale," explained Stefan Nünlist, Head of Group Communications at Swisscom.
As the official partner and telecoms provider, Swisscom will be responsible for all telecoms solutions for the event organisers, the teams and the world's media throughout the competition. Both arenas - Berne and Zurich-Kloten - will be equipped and networked with the latest communications technology and networked. Swisscom will also provide workstations for media representatives as well as fibre-optic, phone and data connections to ensure that text, images and sound can be transmitted all over the world.
Bluewin TV already shows live football and ice hockey matches: the Axpo Super League, the Ice Hockey National League A and all matches in the UEFA Champions League and the German Bundesliga.
