Swisscom outsources facility management to Johnson Controls

Berne, 05 March 2009

Swisscom outsources facility management to Johnson Controls as of the 1. April 2009. Around 270 Swisscom employees will move to Johnson Controls during the process. There will be no job losses associated with the outsourcing. Swisscom and Johnson Controls are convinced that this solution will enable them to offer better prospects for the future to the employees making the switch.

Facility management - the administration and management of buildings and installations - is not part of the core business of Swisscom. Swisscom has therefore decided to outsource Group facility management. The company has found an ideal partner in Johnson Controls. Johnson Controls is one of Switzerland's leading facility management service providers.

Jürg Rötheli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swisscom Immobilien AG: "We are achieving three objectives with this outsourcing project: Our costs will fall significantly in facility management. Operational reliability and continuity of service - especially in the our data-centers and commercial buildings - will be maintained, and outsourcing will offer good prospects for the future to our employees from facility management."

Around 270 employees of Swisscom Immobilien AG who are responsible for building management will be transferred to Johnson Controls. About 90 employees will remain with Swisscom. The latter will be responsible for administering the property portfolio and vehicle fleet and will manage the relationship with Johnson Controls.

The company already holds a strong position in the Swiss market and has the expertise and staffing model to strengthen its position over the next few years. "The takeover of Swisscom's facility management department enhances our starting position quite considerably," says Rico Domenig, national head of Johnson Controls Switzerland. "The new employees bring a wealth of expertise from specific areas of facility management to our company, as well as from the telecommunications industry. In addition to this, we now have a national presence throughout Switzerland."

The outsourcing project is subject to the suspensive condition that the Competition Commission approves the transaction.
