Fibre-optic network for St. Gallen - Conclusion of negotiations between St. Gallen and Swisscom
St. Gallen/Berne, 28 August 2009
Cooperation negotiations between Swisscom and the St. Galler Stadtwerken (utilities) for construction and operation of a fibre-optic network in the city of St. Gallen were concluded successfully today Friday. Both partners have agreed to work together in a move aimed at avoiding duplication, minimising construction costs and enabling the city of St. Gallen to be connected faster to the new fibre-optic technology.
After some six months of intensive negotiations the partners have agreed to work jointly on expanding the fibre-optic network. This will involve laying several fibres per household. The construction of a fibre-optic network is necessary in order to be able to meet the future bandwidth requirements of businesses and private households , i.e. the desire for even faster Internet access. Both partners announced their intention to equip the city of St. Gallen with a fibre-optic network at the beginning of 2009. Working together will enable the project to be completed faster and more cost-effectively for both parties.
