On 15 October 2009 Swisscom will add a new service to its existing range of services for mobile customers: notification of availability via SMS. In future, customers will receive a free SMS notifying them when a person they have been trying to call is available again. This way they don't need to keep calling the person. The service will compliment the existing COMBOX® and SMS call notification service for missed calls.
Fixed-line customers already benefit today from the "Call back when busy" service, which automatically sets up a connection as soon as a person being called is available again. Swisscom's new SMS availability notification service is for mobile customers. The service comes into play if the person being called is on the phone, has no mobile coverage or has switched the phone off. If no message is left on the COMBOX®, the calling party receives a free SMS as soon as the person they are trying to reach becomes available. This saves callers from having to repeatedly call the number.
Residential and business customers calling other Swisscom mobile customers in Switzerland will benefit automatically from the SMS notification service. Activation will take place in stages between mid-October and mid-November. The service can be cancelled at any time simply by sending a free SMS with the text "STOP NOTIFICATION" to the number 444. Following cancellation, the availability of the customer is no longer made known, nor does he or she receive notification of the availability of other persons. Customers can re-register at any time by sending a free SMS with the text "START NOTIFICATION" to the number 444.
