Information and communication technologies are set to converge even more in the future. New technologies and operating models enable the convergence of all communications media, from telephony and e-mail to messaging and video conferencing. Unified communications solutions, as they are known, are already being successfully employed by corporate customers. To address these complex customer requirements more effectively, SEN and Swisscom are aiming to focus on their respective core competencies.
The acquisition will enable Swisscom to maintain its leading position in the competitive market for network services and communications solutions. In turn, SEN will drive forward its successful "OpenCommunications approach" in the Swiss market, based on the applicable OpenScape communications solutions, OpenStage terminal equipment and services, and act as a solution provider for the indirect sales channel. Swisscom will remain a principal partner of SEN in the future.
In future, customers of SEN's operating and service division - primarily in the industrial, transport, energy, public contracting, banking and insurance, hospitality, healthcare and retail sectors - will benefit from Swisscom's wealth of expertise, simplified processes and nationwide presence throughout Switzerland. By taking over 18 specialists from Siemens Enterprise Communications, Swisscom is further enhancing its know-how in the field of IP solutions.
Around 13 employees in the data business will be transferred to Swisscom and be responsible for the regional maintenance and servicing of large data networks, as well as for nationwide video surveillance solutions for various customers. Swisscom will also take over five SEN employees specialising in 3rd Level Support and technical training.
Commenting on the agreement, Urs Schaeppi, Head of Swisscom Corporate Business and member of the Group Executive Board, said "The realignment will optimise intercompany processes.
