Swisscom launches the new BlackBerry Torch 9800

Berne, 06 December 2010

The launch of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 signifies two firsts for manufacturer RIM. It is the very first model which, thanks to its sliding mechanism, offers a complete QWERTZ keyboard as well as a touch screen. In addition, the new Blackberry 6 operating system is considerably more user-friendly. The new BlackBerry Torch 9800 is available now from Swisscom.

With its 3.2-inch touch screen, QWERTZ keyboard and trackpad, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is extremely user-friendly - and has battery power for up to 14 days. A standard 4 GB memory card is included, which is expandable up to 32 GB. In terms of transmission technology, the Torch 9800 offers, among other things, HSPA and WLAN, which enables fast Internet connections - to ensure a perfect reception for Swisscom TV air, for example.

The new BlackBerry 6 operating system offers exceptional user comfort. It makes the touch screen easier to use, e.g. when zooming and browsing. The new menu structure provides the necessary overview and enables rapid access to contacts, applications and browser links. The search function, which can be activated directly via the QWERTZ keyboard, provides additional guidance. Social networks are better integrated - Facebook and Twitter messages can be sent to a separate message folder in your e-mail inbox. MP3s, photos and videos are easily synchronised using BlackBerry 6 via WLAN. The music player and Internet browser have also been improved to enhance their performance.

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 is available now from Swisscom, and costs CHF 199 with the Natel liberty grande subscription. Swisscom is also offering all business customers a special discount of CHF 200 and a free licence worth CHF 120 until the end of January.
