Home Office Day: Swisscom offers free surfing at all larger train stations

The second national "Home Office Day" will take place on Thursday, 19 May 2011. Home working and flexible working improve quality of life, boost productivity and help protect the climate. Swisscom supports this trend and on this year's Home Office Day will offer free access to public wireless LAN hotspots at all larger train stations in Switzerland.
Berne, 16 May 2011

Swisscom's PWLAN hotspots are an important enabler of flexible working outside the office. At railway stations in particular, public WLAN access allows travellers to make productive use of their waiting time. It is precisely for this reason that Swisscom is participating in the second Home Office Day on 19 May 2011 and offering all travellers free Internet access at the 31 biggest railway stations in Switzerland. Anyone whose schedule prevents them from remaining at home all day on Home Office Day will at least have the chance to organise their working day more flexibly and make good use of their travelling or waiting time.

Easy access with password via SMS

To access the free PWLAN network, users simply dial into the "MOBILE" wireless network from a WLAN-enabled device. The dial-in page enabling free access to the PWLAN network appears automatically in the Internet browser. Participants can surf the Internet via Swisscom hotspots at speeds of up to 20 Mbps.

On the first national Home Office Day last year, over 10,000 employees responded to the call to work from home. As a communications solution provider, Swisscom also encourages its own workforce to take advantage of this option. Today some 10,000 employees at Swisscom collaborate with one another independently of their location - including from home. This flexible way of working serves to promote a better work-life balance and has a positive impact on individual productivity. For employees, not having to commute to and from work means more leisure time while also making an important contribution to climate protection. The employer saves on infrastructure costs and benefits from highly motivated and satisfied employees.
