Berne, 21 June 2011

Swisscom continues to expand its mobile network and is the first Swiss provider to roll out the latest HSPA+ technology in six Swiss cities. This will increase total capacity to a download speed of 42 Mbps and an upload speed of 5.6 Mbps. Swisscom already unveiled this upgrade at the WEF in Davos. The high-speed network is already available in Berne and Zurich, with Basel, Geneva, Lausanne and Lugano set to follow suit from the end of August 2011.

The high speeds can be used with the Huawei E372 USB stick, which is now available from Swisscom in combination with the NATEL data premium subscription. The USB stick costs CHF 1 with a subscription and CHF 249 for customers without a subscription.

HSPA+ (High Speed Package Access) is a further development in the UMTS mobile communication standard. The expansion of HSPA+ to speeds of 42 Mbps will see Swisscom significantly increase network capacity, which will allow customers to benefit from an even faster mobile Internet experience. Swisscom invests hundreds of millions of francs every year in its mobile infrastructure.
