Berne, 03 September 2012

How are radio and television programmes broadcast? What opportunities do digital technologies open up? The open day will offer a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the radio tower on the summit of Mont Gibloux. Alongside the informative part of the day, visitors can also look forward to an exciting programme of events and spectacular views over Gruyère and Fribourg. In good weather you can see as far as the Jura and the Alps.

The Gibloux Radio Tower is a key location for Switzerland’s broadcast and transmission network. It provides radio and television coverage for the canton of Fribourg, large parts of Vaud and the Three Lakes region region. It also performs other important functions as a radio link node. The futuristic-looking 118-metre tower is visible for miles around.
Visitors do not need to book in advance for the open day, but should expect to queue. The event is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with walking difficulties. Parking is available in Avry-devant-Pont, rte de la tour" (La Gite), from where there will be a regular shuttle bus service to and from the transmitter station between 9.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The last bus down from the mountain will leave at 5.30 p.m.
