Swisscom modernises Finnova banking platform operations with Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer

Swisscom is expanding its offering for the Swiss financial sector and modernising the infrastructure underpinning its Finnova-based banking platforms. The move will make Swisscom the first operator in Switzerland to deploy Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer.

Combining state-of-the-art cloud technologies with local data residency, the new infrastructure will be operated from Swisscom data centres within Switzerland. Its purpose is to further develop the operation of Finnova-based applications and meet growing demands for scalability, performance and availability within the banking environment. The Swisscom securities data management platform, which is based on the Finnova core banking system used by more than 40 Swiss banks, has already been migrated. "Through Exadata Cloud@Customer, we are establishing the technical foundation needed to meet the banking sector's growing demands for performance, availability and security. At the same time, we are offering our customers a modern infrastructure with data storage right here in Switzerland," says Tonio Di Domenico, Head of Banking Customers. "Moreover, this modernisation strengthens our offering for Finnova customers and creates a scalable operating platform for the next generation of banking services."

Greater efficiency and availability

The new platform consolidates existing Oracle environments and simplifies their operation. Resources can be provisioned flexibly and scaled as required. In addition, consolidating existing database environments streamlines operations and supports the efficient use of infrastructure resources. The architecture, which has been optimised for Oracle databases, also reduces operational complexity and supports the ongoing development of Finnova-based services. Features such as Oracle RAC and Data Guard support a high-availability architecture and strengthen disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities, ensuring maximum resilience for business-critical applications while minimising service disruption. Licence management is also simpler. Compute and licence costs are more closely aligned with the resources actually allocated, which can be adjusted dynamically or manually as required.

The Exadata Cloud@Customer infrastructure is wholly operated from Swisscom’s own Swiss data centres.
