Swisscom Broadcast engineers the biggest hip-hop festival

By Cornelia Fauver

Whether flying cameras above the audience, large screens next to the stage, or complex electronic panels in the background – Swisscom Broadcast once again contributed to ensuring that the Frauenfeld Allmend was buzzing during the legendary open-air festival this year.

Approximately 160,000 visitors attended this year's Hip-Hop, Urban, and Electronic Festival in Frauenfeld over three days. Swisscom Broadcast was responsible for network engineering.

All from one source: before the event – planning

An event of this scale involves extensive planning: the first step is to survey the site, select the appropriate components, create concrete plans, and continuously revise them. Subsequently, the on-site work takes place. Swisscom Broadcast was already in action a week before the event: 'We laid cables, installed complex electrical panels, configured servers, connected screens, and were responsible for ensuring that all administrative operating systems and network services functioned seamlessly from the first minute of the festival,' said Daniel Kern, Project Manager Swisscom Broadcast.

Cashless payment system and screens: during the event - ensuring operational functionality

For the first time, the festival implemented a cashless payment system. This required all sales booths to rely on access to a fast and uninterrupted network. Although refreshments play a significant role, visitors and spectators are primarily interested in what is happening on the main stage. Whether it's Travis Scott, Metro Boomin, or another band from the impressive lineup, large screens are set up next to the stage to ensure visibility even in the farthest rows. Naturally, Swisscom Broadcast is responsible for the secure video transmission.

Four individuals from the Media & Events department of Swisscom Broadcast ensured, over the course of three days, that everything - quite literally - proceeded as planned.
