BDO Switzerland goes live for the first time with a nationwide Townhall Meeting
BDO Switzerland was faced with the challenge of informing around 1,800 employees from all language regions simultaneously and live internally without overloading its own network. The company was looking for a reliable solution for a high-quality, multilingual live broadcast. Together with Swisscom Broadcast, BDO realized its first nationwide townhall meeting in the Swisscom Streaming Studio Zurich.

Initial situation & challenge
BDO was looking for a professional and secure streaming solution for the first nationwide digital town hall meeting with all employees. BDO is organized decentrally throughout Switzerland - with numerous locations, some of which only have limited bandwidth. The network therefore had to cope with a high number of simultaneous accesses without overloading or loss of quality in the transmission. A key requirement was the simultaneous transmission of the livestream in several languages in order to provide all participants with access in their preferred language.
BDO AG is one of Switzerland's leading auditing, fiduciary and consulting firms. Concrete implementation
Swisscom Broadcast took over the overall production and transmission of the event in its streaming studio in Zurich. The team ensured smooth integration into the BDO IT infrastructure and set up a professional setup, including the control room and interpreters.
Participants from all language regions were able to follow the Townhall simultaneously in German, French or Italian. While the slides were shown in the appropriate language, remote interpreters ensured smooth and cost-effective simultaneous translation.
The employees were able to log in securely and easily thanks to the SSO connection. The effort of registering and verifying employees using a registration form was eliminated and yet meaningful statistics could be provided after the event.
The multilingual Q&A format enabled all employees to interact with the management.
The Swisscom Streaming Studio Zurich
The Swisscom Streaming Studio at Binzstrasse 7 in Zurich offers everything you need for professional online events, from camera and control room to streaming infrastructure. It enables live productions in the best audio and video quality and is ideal for virtual or hybrid formats such as webinars, panel discussions, town hall meetings or investor conferences. Up to 15 people can participate on site, while the audience can be connected at other locations.
An eCDN silent test was carried out in advance to identify potential bottlenecks in the network and ensure a smooth, stable live broadcast. To ensure that the live stream could be distributed efficiently within the existing BDO infrastructure, eCDN Hive was used. This guaranteed that the network remained stable even with high simultaneous usage. Thanks to the "WebRTC browser technology" used, no additional client installation was required. Overall, around 80% of bandwidth was saved and the highest streaming quality was achieved at the same time.
