The World Economic Forum (WEF) is one of the most important and visible major international events. Around 3,000 representatives from politics, business and science take part every year, including numerous state and government officials. The requirements for on-site security are therefore extremely high.
Swisscom Broadcast supported the Graubünden cantonal police with the DroneDefence drone protection solution to protect the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos. The detection and defence solution complemented the existing security measures for monitoring the defined no-fly zone for drones.
Swisscom Broadcast has customised DroneDefence specifically to the protection requirements and local conditions in Davos. A scalable multi-sensor and multi-technology approach was used to detect drone activity at an early stage and localise flying objects and their pilots.
Alongside detection, we provided tiered response options. This included the targeted takeover of the control link (Cyber Takeover) to guide a drone from the protected area in a controlled manner if necessary or to have it land at a defined location. AI-based defence measures have been installed for non-commercial drones. All defence measures were carried out in compliance with official regulations.
Swisscom Broadcast's experience in the security-critical environment and the flexible, scalable implementation were decisive factors for the Graubünden Cantonal Police. DroneDefence could be seamlessly integrated into the existing processes and proved itself in use at the WEF.
