Today, an increasing number of business processes are being processed electronically, and this is no different at Alfred Müller AG. A growing number of IT applications, coupled with increasingly tough requirements, meant that the company network (LAN) would soon reach the limits of its performance. In addition, retrofitting the seven-year-old hardware was proving increasingly difficult. In completely overhauling the LAN, the managers at Alfred Müller AG were aiming for a solution that was powerful, failsafe and standardised, and that would also serve as the basis for a possible conversion to Voice over IP telephony.
The new LAN solution from Swisscom has catapulted Alfred Müller AG from the megabit environment to the gigabit environment. Fixed configuration switches from Swisscom form the heart of the solution. The new equipment can handle Ethernet transmission bandwidths in the gigabit range, and increases network performance by means of optimum availability, security and quality of service. Thanks to the fact that the same switches have been installed at all three branches of the company, the resulting standardisation means that the various servers communicate perfectly with one another. The new LAN means that Alfred Müller AG is now fully prepared to meet the challenges of the future, as the solution enables easy integration of Voice over IP (VoIP), wireless LAN or Power over Ethernet. The successful solution is rounded off by a Swisscom maintenance contract.
