Efficient and highly modern computer centers at Swisscom
Green ICT in computer centers, too
Environmental issues and energy efficiency are a top priority in our computer centers as well. This is why we continuously optimise and modernise our computer centers, which are operated using 100 percent renewable energy.
We were able to reduce the electricity requirements for cooling our computer center in Zollikofen by more than 30 percent compared with conventional centers. This allows us to save the equivalent amount of electricity that would be required by around 1,400 households each year.
Since August 2012, Swisscom has been constructing one of the most modern and efficient computer centers in Europe at the Berne-Wankdorf business park. It is cooled using free cooling and rain water, the waste heat is fed into the city of Berne's heating network and an innovative emergency power concept makes batteries superfluous. The new computer center will begin operating in 2014. Swisscom is investing around 100 million Swiss francs in the new building.
