SBB signals green

The IT department at SBB ensures that the federal railway's information technology supports all users in completing their tasks efficiently. When it comes to energy consumption, efficiency is a top priority, too, which is why SBB IT has replaced 8,500 desktop PCs with laptops and thin clients.

Around 19,000 workstations at SBB are connected to the company-wide operating platform OPUS. Until now, 16,000 desktop PCs and 3,000 laptops were used for this. SBB wanted to optimise the OPUS software used within the company in terms of costs, speed, energy consumption and ergonomics. They required new hardware that is precisely aligned to the requirements of server-based working (thin computing).
