Learn what an eSIM is, how to get hold of one and how to activate it on your device. You will also find answers to frequently asked questions and helpful downloads.
Quick start: activate an eSIM on iOS and Android in just a few steps.
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digitally programmable SIM chip that is permanently installed in a device. Unlike with a physical SIM card, there is no need to insert a card – tariffs are installed by profile via a QR code, an activation app or the device menu. This is practical, plastic-free and enables multiple profiles on one device (e.g. business and private).
As a provider, we offer a self service portal, where the person responsible for mobile communications can purchase eSIMs for all subscriptions in one place.
A QR code for the eSIM can be created in the portal and sent directly to the end users. They then scan the code and activate the eSIM on their device.
Alternatively, the eSIM can be linked to a specific EID (eSIM ID). The end user can then download the eSIM directly via the device menu – without any need for a QR code.
If an end user changes their device, manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung and Google offer convenient transfer tools (e.g. Quick Transfer) which will transfer an eSIM profile quickly and securely to the new device.
Note: iOS also supports eSIM Quick Transfer between iPhones.
Tip: some devices allow eSIM transfer by manufacturer account (e.g. Samsung account).
Activation is usually via the smartphone app for the watch (e.g. “Watch” app). Navigate to Set Up Mobile in the menu and log in with your provider to download the Companion profile.
Yes, lots of smartphones support multiple profiles. Generally speaking, one or two profiles can be active at the same time – depending on the model.
Activate data roaming in the relevant eSIM profile. Check tariffs and country coverage with your provider before you travel.
Check your Internet connection and camera focus. Alternatively, enter the SM‑DP+ address and activation ID manually or request a new code.
