Fixing Connectivity Issues on Mobile Devices: Adjusting Proxy and APN Settings

Is your device no longer connecting to the internet? Outdated proxy settings may be the cause. Follow the steps below to adjust your settings and restore your internet connection.

If your device still has older proxy settings configured, you may experience the following issues:

  • No internet connection when browsing in the browser
  • No internet connection in apps

Fixing Internet Problems

Follow these steps to get your mobile phone or other device back online:

  • If a proxy connection has been set up in your phone settings under 'General' > 'VPN & Device Management', please remove it.
  • If no proxy connection has been set up, reset your network settings. Warning: any saved Wi-Fi passwords will be lost.

  1. Check your APN settings to see whether a proxy entry exists. Settings > ‘More Settings’ / ‘Network & Internet’ > ‘Mobile Networks’ > ‘Access Points (APNs)’
  2. Ensure that the fields for ‘Proxy’, ‘Port’, ‘Username’, ‘Password’, etc. are empty. If they are not empty and you are unable to edit the fields, create a new access point (APN) under a different name using gprs.swisscom.ch as the APN, and activate it.   3. As a last resort: reset your network settings. Please note: any saved Wi-Fi passwords will be lost.

  1. Check your settings to see whether a proxy entry exists.

  2. Ensure that the fields for ‘Proxy’, ‘Port’, ‘Username’, ‘Password’, etc. are empty.
  3. Create and activate a new APN.
