The IPU Conference took place from 16 to 19 October 2011 in Bern. Around 1,700 parliamentarians and visitors attended.
Swisscom Event & Media Solutions was responsible for the planning, setting up and operation of the communications and information infrastructure. This included on the one hand information screens and IT workstations for the parliamentarians and the organising committee, and on the other, the temporary facilities for voice and data communication via WLAN, telephony and fax. The team also provided a live streaming solution so that those not physically present could still attend the conference.
A total of 15 deskstops and 16 laptops were used, together with 19 screens that displayed data and images by live stream and by information system. A LAN (Local Area Network) was also set up with a bit rate of 200 Mbit/s. Around 30 Cisco switches were part of this for the most part redundantly wired LAN which was also made accessible by hotspot. A total of around 1.5 km of patch and fibre optic cables were laid. Around 40 telephones and 8 faxes were also in operation.
The project went smoothly and the customer was very pleased with its implementation. There was special praise for the flexibility with which even requirements that emerged at short notice could be implemented.
