Using the Call waiting function

When you make a call, your line is busy. You can set up call waiting so that a second call can be  waiting while you are on the phone.

How to enable "Call Waiting"

The "call waiting" feature can be set up easily in the Customer Centre.

How "Call waiting" works

If a second caller rings you while you are on the phone, you hear a tone (a ping), and the second caller hears the ringing tone. If you have other phones, they will ring and you can take the second call on one of them.

Call Waiting on the new HD phones

You can easily manage incoming calls on the menu of the new HD phones. You basically have the following options:

  • ignore the new call. After 20 seconds, it will be rejected.
  • reject the new call on the current telephone (on the red handset or by using the menu). Other telephones will continue to ring.
  • end the current connection and take the call that is waiting. (Use the menu)
  • interrupt the first call (park it) and take the new one. You can pick up the parked connection after you have spoken with the second caller. (Use the menu)

Call waiting on analogue landline phones

You basically have the same options with analogue landline phones as with HD phones, except that on analogue phones, the red handset is used to end the current call so that you can take a second one. The new call announces itself with a tone that can be heard for 10 seconds.

Please note:

The menu cannot be used with all analogue telephones. Please refer to your phone's instructions, which can be downloaded here.

Costs

"Call waiting" is a free service.

When you are making a telephone call, your line is busy. Configure your telephone so that a second caller can use the call waiting function in this case.

How call waiting works

If a second call comes in while you are making a telephone call, you will hear a signal (call waiting). You can...

  • ignore the new caller. Then his call will be rejected after 20 seconds.
  • terminate the existing connection (hang up the receiver) and take the waiting call (pick up the receiver again). You will be notified about the waiting call by an urgent signal for 10 seconds.
  • pause the first connection (parking) and take the second call. After you terminate the conversation with the second caller, you can continue with the parked call.
