Frequently asked questions

Follow the step-by-step instructions to set up or adjust the e-mail account on your computer, smartphone or tablet.

Basically, they should first make sure that no longer needed emails are moved from the mailbox. Please also consider the recycle bin here. The procedure for cleaning up differs between the various email clients (Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.) only in the handling. E-mail clients usually offer archiving functions that allow e-mails to be saved locally for specific purposes. It is advisable to check whether you need to have e-mails with large attachments or old e-mails permanently available. Archiving or storing large attachments locally relieves the load on your mailbox on the server side and thus increases performance.

SSL stands for “Secure Sockets Layer”: This technology forms a secure connection between your website and the visitor’s web browser. This connection is used to transmit all sensitive data in encrypted form: third parties can neither see nor use it. Your benefits are summarised below:

  • Visitors can check the authenticity of your company at a glance.
  • The SSL certificate with advanced validation attracts more visitors, sales and registrations thanks to visible security.
  • The SSL certificate shows new or very cautious visitors that your website is not a fake.
  • Increase your Google ranking by up to 5 percent: better search results bring more visitors to your website, resulting in more interaction and sales.

More about security(opens in new tab)

Let's encrypt (free SSL) is included in the web hosting service and HomepageTool. Additional encryption is not absolutely necessary. Our large-scale versions include a premium SSL certificate. You can activate certificates in your Control Panel under “SSL certificates”.

You can activate permanent HTTPS redirection because every website hosted by Swisscom has an SSL certificate as standard. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Launch your website’s Control Panel.
  2. Go to the “Websites” tab.
  3. Click “Edit” for the required website.
  4. Select “Activate SSL redirection”.

Please note that you may need to manually change existing links on your website from http:// to https:// and that you may need to carry out further actions (including plugins) depending on your website solution.

To configure an https redirect using .htaccess, proceed as follows:

  1. Use FTP to connect to your root directory and open the public_html folder of the corresponding Homepage Tool website.
  2. Open the .htaccess file (download).
  3. Replace the file content with the following values:
    #BEGIN HTTPS Redirection
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Proto} !https
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
    </IfModule>
    #END HTTPS Redirection
  4. Resave the .htaccess file into your directory (public_html).
  5. Restart the browser.

Your website should now automatically open using HTTPS . Check this by entering your domain (without http:// or https://).
