Patrouille des Glaciers
The Patrouille des Glaciers is taking place from 13 to 19 April 2026. As a long-standing technology partner to the Swiss Army, Swisscom is once again providing the communications and mobile infrastructure along the entire race route. The alpine conditions and exposed route mean the network needs to be exceptionally stable, so that athletes and organisers are able to communicate reliably at all times.
This year, Swisscom is making its temporary infrastructure even better, with a new technical approach: the mobile station that, in previous years, was specially constructed on the Dent Blanche will not be set up this time. Instead, coverage will be provided by a mobile station on the Tête Blanche, where there is already a medical services tent, which has been in situ for many years, and race staff. By using these resources, Swisscom can significantly reduce material and transport costs and save flying hours in the high Alpine terrain, without compromising on network quality. At the same time, Swisscom will reinforce existing mobile telephony sites along the route, install temporary capacity solutions and use satellite-based connections to increase redundancy. This will ensure that the communications infrastructure remains reliable even in the event of changeable weather conditions.
The Patrouille des Glaciers is an extremely popular event, both for spectators on site and for those watching on screens at home. The race will be broadcast live on blue Sport, RTS, La Télé and Canal 9. Through this unique collaboration between the four channels, fans across Switzerland will be able to experience the impressive images from the Alps in real time.
For those who wish to follow the race live, there will be a web-based tracking platform available at live.pdg.ch, which will allow relatives, fans and the media to track teams directly.
