For autonomous vehicles to be permitted on the roads in Switzerland, it is essential to have proof of their functional and operational reliability. This is where DTC AG can help: as a leading test centre, it tests vehicles and their assistance and automation systems under realistic conditions – because safety is absolutely crucial for autonomous mobility. The test results form the basis for FEDRO to grant approval for operations on public roads. In the future, DTC will also be where the autonomous systems of the next generation of vehicles are tested (Level 3 and Level 4 vehicles), which will mark a critical step in the development of safer, more autonomous mobility.
These tests require fully reliable, low-latency and secure connectivity, which is something we can ensure with Mobile Private Network (MPN). Teleoperation, remote monitoring and safety-critical measurements can only work if data is transmitted in real time and over a stable network. Therefore, because the test site originally had limited coverage, Swisscom built a local mobile site and equipped the area with 4G/5G connectivity. This connection allows simulation of critical situations and testing of the technology under challenging conditions.
As a result of the partnership between Swisscom and DTC, there is now a test environment that is unique in Switzerland. While DTC provides the expertise, the infrastructure and the regulatory test processes, Swisscom ensures the availability of a stable, secure and high-performance basis for communication. Together, they are creating space for innovation, promoting technological development and playing a direct role in bringing safe, reliable autonomous vehicles to Swiss roads.
