‘Live Track procures SIMs for its projects, which are built into the IoT sensors.’

Live Track AG uses the potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) to optimise logistics processes with smart systems. Thanks to IoT-based solutions, waste disposal and supply in municipalities and companies is becoming more efficient, cheaper and more ecological. Swisscom supports Live Track with IoT services.

  • calculable prices

Challenge

An illustrative example showing the use of Live Track’s smart technology is the Smart Waste platform for glass recycling. Live Track installs IoT ultrasonic sensors in the collection containers, which transmit fill levels in real time to its logistics platform. The data evaluated there enables the optimisation of emptying and collection journeys: only when a container is sufficiently full is it emptied – unnecessary journeys are therefore avoided.

The transmission of sensor data to the platform is challenging: first of all, it should not draw too much power from the sensor batteries. Secondly, the bottle banks are often located in remote areas and some models are even placed under the ground.

‘Swisscom offers the best network for our needs nationwide.’

Solution

For Yetvart Artinyan, CEO of Live Track, Swisscom is the ideal partner for IoT data transmission: “It offers the best nationwide network for our smart waste solution. Our sensors communicate via Swisscom Narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) – an extension of the 4G mobile network – or via LoRa WAN.” NB-IoT stands out thanks to its low energy consumption and high penetration capacity.

Live Track procures SIMs for its projects, which are built into the IoT sensors. The SIMs are activated or deactivated via the Swisscom Connectivity Management Platform. The costs for the Swisscom IoT services are based on the number of active devices and the data volume. Which means “calculable costs”, according to Yetvart Artinyan.
