Internet problems on your cell phone: Adjusting proxy and APN settings

Is your smartphone's internet connection not working? This might be due to outdated proxy settings. Here's how to change the settings so your internet connection works again.

Possible restrictions

If your phone still has older proxy settings, you may experience the following limitations:

  • No internet connection when browsing in the browser
  • No internet connection when using apps

Troubleshoot Internet Issues

Here's what to do to get your phone or other device back online:

  1. Check that your device is running the latest software. If not, carry out a software update.
  2. If a connection to a proxy is set up in your phone's settings under "General" > "VPN & Device Management," remove it.
  3. If you are not connected via a proxy, reset your network settings. Note: This will cause any saved Wi-Fi passwords to be lost.

  1. Check that your device is running the latest software. If not, carry out a software update.
  2. Check the APN settings to see if there is a proxy entry. Settings > "Advanced Settings" / "Network & Internet" > "Mobile Networks" > "Access Points (APNs)"
  3. Make sure the fields for "Proxy", "Port", "Username", "Password", etc., are left blank. If they are not empty and you cannot edit the fields, create a new access point (APN) under a different name with gprs.swisscom.ch as the APN and activate it.
