What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is a shopping day that originated in the United States. It takes its name from the day after Thanksgiving in November, when vast numbers of shoppers would hit the stores, keeping retailers in the black for the rest of the year. Although Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Switzerland, discount campaigns can still be found in most shops the day after. Black Friday has become more than just a single shopping day and is now part of a special promotional period.
