Death: cancel or take over subscription

We regret that a person close to you has died. Notify us of the death and we will cancel the contract immediately at no extra cost. Or you can take over the deceased person's subscription.

Cancel subscription

You can report the death in writing or by telephone and cancel current subscriptions. You will need the following information:

  • Name and date of birth 
  • Address of all the connections/contracts 
  • If known: Contract number or bill
  • Death certificate

Take over subscription

This allows you to take over a deceased person's Swisscom subscription instead of canceling it:

For legal reasons, we need to see identification in person to transfer a mobile contract.

To do this, you need:

  • Name and date of birth
  • Valid travel document such as ID, passport or residence permit
  • Address of all the connections/contracts 
  • Contract number or bill if at all possible

To transfer a fixed network subscription, call us or visit a Swisscom Shop.

To transfer a TV or Internet connection, call us or visit a Swisscom Shop.

To do this, you need:

There is no need to cancel prepaid accounts because there is no contract with Swisscom.

 To transfer a prepaid number we require on-site identification for legal reasons.

Note: The remaining credit will be transferred automatically. Please be aware that if you fail to use the number within 12 months, the account will be deactivated.

No, if the contract is being cancelled or transferred due to a death, the death certificate must already be available when we are notified.

There are no disruptions with mobile contracts. When you take over a fixed-network telephone, Internet or TV account, however, there may be brief disruptions on the morning of the transfer. We endeavour to keep these as brief as possible.
