“The first Swiss Palace is the newest.” This is the catchy slogan with which the legendary hotel in car-free Mürren greets its website visitors. In December 2024, manager Samuel Bichsel celebrated the splendid reopening of the hotel, which dates from 1874, together with his guests and his team. The Palace can also claim the title of “most state-of-the-art” – at least as far as its guest TV solution is concerned.

Found: a complete, low-maintenance solution

Samuel Bichsel explains how it started: “We completely renovated the hotel and were able to redesign the system from the ground up.” He did not want to invest his energy in dealing with different partners, so obtained an impressive integrated solution from Swisscom and its local partner Net26: TV with an info channel and digital guest directory, LAN and Internet. Swisscom’s optical fibre cable was the clinching factor, as it enables streaming services to be provided to the rooms – and a huge range of channels. The new Samsung devices are controlled via an app, with no additional TV box and no cable clutter. As well as blue TV, guests can also watch Netflix, YouTube etc. directly on the TV set. The solution is also used in the outdoor area, with a big screen presenting guests approaching the entrance with details of the latest offerings and events as well as pictures from inside the hotel.

A warm digital welcome awaits you before you even set foot inside the hotel.

The digital guest directory – a game-changing innovation

The digital guest directory integrated in the TV solution is exclusive to Swisscom in this country. “It’s a real game-changer for us,” declares Samuel Bichsel. The Palace’s guests can book spa treatments, restaurant tables or transfer services before they even arrive. Once inside the hotel, they can easily access information and services via the TV sets or their smartphones – without downloading an app. “Guests are often not receptive when they are checking in. With the digital guest directory, we reach them at the right moment.” Everything is completely up to date and can be called up immediately – from the hot tub tutorial to courses and registration options. The digital guest directory creates new sales opportunities before guests arrive, during their stay and after they have left. At the same time it strengthens customer loyalty, frees up staff resources and provides a universal guest experience.

Frees up staff and offers convenience to guests

The hotel uses the info channel to provide its guests with up-to-date information outside the entrance, at reception and in the rooms. Notice boards and travel brochures are no longer needed. The info channel and digital guest directory content can be updated centrally and displayed on all devices. This increases the efficiency and quality of the hotel’s digital presence. Training for the tool was easy, with Swisscom’s partner firm Gastfreund on hand to provide fast and reliable assistance with any questions. “Our staff love how intuitive it is to use,” beams the hotel manager. Even room telephones are no longer necessary. “In an emergency we can make announcements directly via the TVs – including in the selected language.” This means the hotel not only saves on devices, but also on maintenance costs.

Watch TV like at home

“We didn’t want a system that was going to be out of date in three years,” says Samuel Bichsel. “We now have a future-oriented TV solution for our international guests.” Whether it’s over 400 TV channels in 25 languages or access to streaming services like Netflix and YouTube, blue TV business has everything. “Our guests want what they have at home, only better,” points out Bichel. “I’d make the same choice again at any time.”

Comfortably continue watching the favorite series.
