In third-party networks and for advanced security functions, users use the beem app on PCs, Macs, tablets or smartphones. With Essential, protection against cyberthreats is automatically activated.
The Security Editions Basic, Plus and Premium enable you to configure Zero Trust access on your business applications and other security functions in line with your needs. We will gladly offer the appropriate assisted services to help you get everything set up.
No. beem is network based and is operated by Swisscom in Swisscom data centres in Switzerland with quadruple geo-redundancy. You do not need to concern yourself with either software or updates. What is more, you do not need any additional hardware at your company site – with the Swisscom broadband connection (fibre or copper) and the Swisscom router, you have everything you need.
Largely. In most cases, beem can replace the existing Internet firewall, remote access and e-mail security solutions, whilst also offering location-independent protection and many more mechanisms for protecting your company and your data. We recommend still using antivirus software on the end devices, as although beem analyses data traffic, it is unable to check data that is stored on client devices. Further useful additions to beem include secure cloud storage solutions and backups, Security Awareness Training and Threat Detection and Response. Yes, you can integrate beem into your existing IT and Microsoft ecosystem. User management in beem can be federated with other user management solutions, such as Microsoft Entra ID. You can also combine device management in beem with other solutions, such as Microsoft Intune or Ivanti Neurons for MDM.
Yes, Swisscom and beem are certified to the international standards ISO 27001 for information security and ISO 14001 for environmental management systems, among others. Details can be found in the information about Swisscom’s ISO/IEC management system.
Devices that are connected to the Swisscom mobile network via a SIM card and have been assigned a beem Protect & Connect user licence are automatically hosted on beemNet. Company sites with a Swisscom broadband connection with beemNet (and thus all devices connected there) are also automatically hosted on beemNet.
Devices in third-party networks require the beem app to connect to beemNet. This applies to devices with a mobile subscription for Swisscom residential customers or from third-party providers in Switzerland and abroad, as well as when users connect their devices while working from home or using a public WLAN. The beem app also enables end-to-end encryption of the data connection.
In the case of customers with beem Essential, users need the beem app to benefit from advanced protection against cyberthreats on their devices. This enables, for example, analysis of the content of data packages (Deep Packet Inspection) and thus provides advanced protection against viruses and other malware.
The beem app is needed for users to receive push notifications about averted cyber attacks, prevented data leaks and the like.
For secure access to company data and business applications, the beem app is required in order to check device parameters (Device Posture Management), such as whether an up-to-date antivirus is enabled, the device password is strong enough or data carriers are encrypted. This functionality is included in beem Basic, Plus and Premium and enables advanced device protection. If user end devices are centrally managed, the beem app and the necessary certificates are automatically installed on them.
Alternatively, users can securely access company data via the beem Business Application Portal, even when using unknown or public devices, without installing the beem app. With beem Basic and above, further options are contained that provide even anonymous users with selective access to company data and business applications.
blue Security & Service are security subscriptions for residential customers that provide access to Swisscom’s My Security app. They offer protection against phishing, a virus scanner for malware protection on the device, a password manager, the monitoring of personal data online and the ability to restrict Internet access for children.
The beem app is aimed at business customers. It encrypts their connection and provides protection against phishing and malware. Rather than on the device itself, with beem, this protection is provided over beemNet, where the data traffic is subjected to multiple security checks. This prevents malware from accessing the device in the first place. In addition, beemNet is updated several times per day to automatically offer users the latest protection without them having to update the beem app. As the protection is provided via beemNet, only data streams between the device and the Internet can be analysed; it is not possible to analyse data that has already been stored on the device or files that are transferred to the device via a hard disk or USB stick.
The beem app also provides push notifications in the event of cyber incidents and a personal Security Dashboard. As part of the comprehensive security solution beem, the beem app furthermore enables employees to securely access business applications from anywhere. In this regard, the beem app can check device properties and users can only access company data after completing a passwordless authentication process in the beem app using facial recognition, fingerprint or PIN – in line with the highest security standards.
Combining Blue Security & Service and beem with the associated apps is therefore the ideal solution for comprehensively protecting devices during both private and business use.
If your company site is connected to beemNet, all on-site devices are also connected to beemNet and therefore protected – including IT workstations, production machines and printers. Users and their devices that are not connected to the LAN or WLAN at the site are not connected to beemNet and therefore not protected. For users to also be protected when not on the company premises, you need beem user licences. These also provide access to the beem app and advanced security functions.
Company sites are automatically hosted on beemNet from their selected activation date and therefore protected against cyberthreats. To activate users, you must assign the beem user licences that you have purchased to your users in My Swisscom Business(opens in new tab) by entering their (Swiss) mobile phone numbers. Users with a Protect & Connect user licence (including mobile subscription) are automatically protected in the Swisscom mobile network. In the case of a Protect user licence and for comprehensive protection in third-party networks, users install the beem app and perform a one-time login with their Swiss mobile phone number (verification via SMS code).
In My Swisscom Business, you can use the beemNet settings to choose from four predefined security levels for safe surfing. The selection automatically applies to all company sites and users. If not modified by the customer, Security Level 2 is used by default.
You can activate and configure beem in the My Swisscom Business(opens in new tab) self-service portal. As soon as you have completed your order, you can create users (Swisscom Business Accounts), assign them the appropriate user licence, and create user groups if required. Alternatively, existing Identity and Access Management solutions (e.g. Microsoft Active Directory or Entra ID) can be federated. Configure the beemNet settings and Zero Trust access to business applications in the Concerto management portal using appropriate policy templates at company level or per application.
To help you set everything up quickly and easily, Swisscom offers standardised onboarding packages depending on the complexity of your requirements.
beem Essential can be purchased directly from Swisscom (online, by phone or in the Swisscom Shop) or through existing Swisscom partners. No third-party support is generally required to set up beem Essential. In the future, it will be possible to purchase the beem Security Editions Basic, Plus and Premium from certified IT partners. At present, these are exclusively sold by Swisscom, and onboarding packages are available from Swisscom to assist you with the setup.
