Are you interested in motorsport? Then you've come to the right place!

Lenny Schild is a trainee mediamatician with a very special hobby. He is interested in motorsport and has been racing for almost 10 years. Read the short interview to find out how Lenny manages to combine his hobby with his apprenticeship at Swisscom. Have fun!

What made you decide to do an apprenticeship as a mediamatician at Swisscom?

I actually started my apprenticeship as an EFZ retail specialist at Swisscom and successfully completed it in 2021. Then one day I had the opportunity to work as a DHF apprentice in a mediamatics department and this experience sparked my interest in design. That's why I'm now doing my second apprenticeship as an EFZ mediamatician.

How can you manage your hobby and your apprenticeshi?

I'm not at the racetrack every day, as there just isn't enough time. I spend most of my time at home with racing simulations to keep in practice. I rarely drive on a real race track, but I try to be on the track once a week if possible. I have enough time for school during the day. I work 8 hours a day at Swisscom, as I have to work 40 hours a week. If I have a training session and have to finish work a little earlier than my 8 hours, it's not so tragic because I can make up for the time I miss the next day in the form of overtime. As a result, I've got used to structuring my daily routine and can therefore cope better with stress.

What do you do in your private life apart from motorsport?

In terms of my private life, I don't have much time for anything else as I'm either working or training all day. If I have an evening off, I meet up with my friends or spend it with my family. I usually go outside with my friends and play basketball, table tennis or badminton. I also like to play shooter games from time to time and see this as a little hobby on the side.

When did you start motorsport?

The first time I took part in a race was about 10 years ago. I went go-karting with my uncle. At the time, I was doing really good times for my young age, which the owner of the go-kart track noticed. He then approached my uncle and me and asked if I would be interested in taking part in a race that would soon be taking place at his track. I said yes and that's how my career actually began. I was later scouted by Redbull at these small go-kart races and then things started to go uphill for me.

What goals do you have in terms of motorsport?

My biggest goal is to be in Formula 1. I see this goal as rather unlikely, but I don't want to give up on my dream. At the moment, I'm looking for a new team where I can continue to develop.

How does Swisscom support you in your hobby?

I benefit greatly from the working hours at Swisscom. The additional six weeks of holiday that I have at my disposal allow me to take part in international races and pursue my hobby. Without these open working hours and lots of holidays, it would not be possible to live out my dream.
