Our apprentices are more than just trainees. They are employees, team colleagues and voices that are heard. And who better to evaluate our training model and show why an apprenticeship at Swisscom is worthwhile than the apprentices themselves. We therefore asked them why they chose us and what they value about training at Swisscom:

Matthias Fuhrimann said quite simply that he was convinced by the principle of qualification projects*. This point was mentioned several times. Loris Polenz explains why: "The path that an apprentice takes at Swisscom is not the norm. You have the opportunity to go your own way and also have the responsibility to do so. It was clear to me that I wanted to join Swisscom when I learnt about this concept." Melissa Pinarci added to this statement by comparing her situation as a Swisscom apprentice with that of others. She said that the trust she experiences here is reflected in her tasks. In addition to the flexible nature of the training system and the support offered, she greatly appreciates the personal responsibility she is allowed to take on.

Mediamatician Janis Wanger had the following to say: "Particularly in the case of broad professions, it is extremely advantageous to work in a company where you have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the full breadth of the profession. In addition, the flexible system allows you to further deepen your individual areas of interest. This allows everyone to find the best and most suitable areas in which they would like to continue working after their apprenticeship."

Benjamin Wolf, who completed his apprenticeship as a computer scientist at Swisscom a year ago, brought up another important aspect: "Soft skills play just as important a role in an apprenticeship at Swisscom as hard skills. You learn to build up a network, responsibility and professional behaviour in a professional environment and build up your own personal values, which you present to the outside world alongside those of Swisscom. That really helped me a lot!"

All apprentices are accompanied throughout their apprenticeship by a learning mentor. Two of them summarised the above statements succinctly and well. Both Cristina Ernst and Steve Hess said that apprentices and students are allowed and encouraged to take on responsibility from day one, organise their training themselves and contribute their ideas throughout the company. They decide for themselves which skills they want to learn and thus actively shape their training.
