ICT Switzerland and the Swiss Informatics Society have become the new cooperation partners for the Swisscom Innovation Award. The award, which will be presented on 5 November 2015, recognises the best bachelor’s or master’s thesis in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, with a cash prize of CHF 10,000. The Swisscom Innovation Award pays tribute to IT innovations by talented young people.

The Swisscom Innovation Award aims to promote young talent and reward outstanding achievement. This year, the competition will be backed by the umbrella organisation ICTswitzerland and the Swiss Informatics Society. The two new partners will also be represented on the jury with two members apiece. “The Swisscom Innovation Award offers an ideal platform to graduates with an innovative and feasible idea to promote themselves and their work,” believes Andreas Kaelin, Chief Executive of ICTswitzerland. “We are committed to promoting young talent at all academic levels, which is why it’s important to recognise and reward outstanding performance,” says Jürg Gutknecht, President of the Swiss Informatics Society, with regard to the partnership.

Deadline for applications still open

Bachelor’s and master’s students in the field of Information and Communication Technologies will again have the chance this year to apply with their thesis for the Swisscom Innovation Award and win CHF 10,000. Students who have written their bachelor’s or master’s thesis at a Swiss university on an ICT topic are eligible to apply. Entry is open to both individuals and teams. Applications can be submitted until 30 September 2015. The theses will be judged by an expert jury in October. The three theses that most impress the expert jury in terms of practical findings and scope of application will go through to the final. The award presentation ceremony will take place on 5 November 2015 at Swisscom’s BrainGym in Berne.

“The award is a great opportunity for people to present ideas and win money for their implementation,” says Jie Song, the winner of 2014. Song was presented with the award for his thesis at ETH Zurich entitled “In air gesture around unmodified mobile devices” and used the prize money to patent his idea.
