Swisscom donates to flood victims

The devastating floods in Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia continue to claim lives. The extent of the damage caused to land and infrastructure cannot yet be determined but is likely to be immense. Swisscom is thus donating half a million Swiss francs and is calling on its employees to raise funds for the people affected by the floods.
Berne, 21 May 2014

The lives of more than one million people in the Balkans have been devastated by the extreme floods and their aftermath. "We want to show solidarity with these people; many of our colleagues here at Swisscom are from the area," says Stefan Nünlist, Head of Group Communications. "The Group Executive Board has therefore decided to add another 500,000 Swiss francs to the funds already raised by our employees."

The donated sum will go to Swiss Solidarity ("Glückskette"), an organisation with which Swisscom has been associated for more than 60 years and for which it provides the necessary infrastructure on national fundraising days. Swisscom has also established contact with local telecoms providers in the affected areas (bh telecom and Telecom Srbija) and is offering technical support.
For Swisscom, helping people in need has a long tradition. Whenever a major natural catastrophe has struck in recent years, Swisscom has supported Swiss Solidarity's fundraising efforts by donating sizeable amounts of money.
