Sustainability Software Radar for Swiss businesses

The Sustainability Software Radar from Swisscom and Atlantic Ventures provides an overview of sustainability and carbon management software solutions. The report, which highlights market developments and trends and helps ESG managers and CIOs select the right tools, is intended to support Swiss businesses with the implementation of holistic and data-driven sustainability and carbon management.

The picture shows an antenna on a mountain, in the distance you can see a lake.

In the future, more than 1700 Swiss companies will be required to complete comprehensive sustainability reporting. From this year, companies with more than 500 employees and a balance sheet total of over CHF 20 million or revenues greater than CHF 40 million will have to complete climate reporting in accordance with the TCFD standard. The carbon footprint is thus becoming an important key figure in corporate management. The prepared climate balance sheet must be auditable and include the planning, control and implementation of suitable decarbonisation measures in connection with net zero management. In practice, many companies struggle to leverage data for the recording, calculation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainability software offers a sound basis for data-driven sustainability and carbon management.

Market overview: start-ups drive innovation in data-driven carbon reporting

Swisscom and Atlantic Ventures have created a market overview to give companies visibility over the extensive software landscape. Created from an analysis of more than 240 software vendors and their solutions, the Sustainability Software Radar gives ESG managers and CIOs an insight into the dynamic market development and a clear picture of the products available. Start-ups and new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies play a key role alongside the more established ESG software providers and global software and cloud corporations. More than half of the providers surveyed were founded after 2015 and are innovation drivers for cloud- and data-driven carbon reporting and sustainability management.

The latest software generations: cloud-native, APIs for system integration, and AI models

Solutions that offer carbon and ESG management throughout the entire value and supply chain are one emerging trend. These will enable companies to comply with their future regulatory obligations to also disclose upstream and downstream emissions. The new generation of climate and sustainability management solutions relies on cloud-native software architectures, flexible data models, APIs for system integration and AI models for simulating CO2 reduction pathways.
Gina Obrecht, business developer for data-driven sustainability at Swisscom Business Customers, explains: “Digitisation and data-driven business are key elements on the journey to net zero, which is why we are focused on helping customers to evaluate the tools and integrate them into existing IT systems.”
