Swiss AI Assistant: Swisscom's AI chatbot for in-house knowledge management

With the Swiss AI Assistant, Swisscom is providing an AI chatbot operated entirely in Switzerland for in-house knowledge management, thus offering companies of all sizes secure and easy access to modern generative AI as a privacy-compliant alternative to freely available AI tools.

The Swiss AI Assistant from Swisscom supports employees in their day-to-day work by enabling them to quickly find information from company documents and use this information – for example to answer questions, summarise content or help with text creation. The AI chatbot is suitable for organisations of different sizes and sectors, including SMEs, the public sector and, in particular, companies from regulated sectors such as finance or healthcare.

AI with clear data sovereignty in Switzerland

Many companies are faced with the task of implementing AI responsibly. In the absence of suitable tools, employees often resort to external AI services, which entails data protection risks and a lack of control. This is exactly where the Swiss AI Assistant comes in: It is consistently geared towards data protection and compliance. All data is fully stored and processed in Swisscom’s Swiss data centres. This helps companies meet data protection, compliance, and digital sovereignty requirements and reap the benefits of AI in their business more quickly. According to Urs Lehner, Head of Swisscom Business Customers, “Digital sovereignty is a key concern for many companies and public institutions. The Swiss AI Assistant is consistently operated in Switzerland and gives companies full control over their data – a decisive alternative to freely available AI services.”

The Swiss AI Assistant uses several open source language models in unchanged form. No company data is used to train or improve basic models. Further models will be available in the future, including the large, open Swiss LLM Apertus.

AI introduction without IT hurdles

The Swiss AI Assistant has been deliberately designed to be easy to introduce and use. Companies can roll out the assistant without extensive IT projects, upload documents and configure the chatbot in just a few steps. It is used on a self-service basis and does not require any prior technical knowledge. User and access management capabilities are available as needed, making it suitable for both smaller businesses and larger organisations.

Companies benefit from a clear flat-rate tariff model, for example with the Essential Edition for up to ten employees for CHF 149 per month. A free trial version with a full range of functions allows users to try out the chatbot in their own working context without obligation.

Part of Swisscom’s AI strategy

The Swiss AI Assistant is based on Swisscom’s Swiss AI Platform and is thus embedded in a long-term AI strategy. The Swiss AI Platform offers modular AI services – from GPU resources and model APIs to the AI Work Hub and the latest service, the GenAI Studio, as a low-code/no-code development environment for generative AI solutions. Swisscom is further developing its AI offering in a targeted manner to provide companies and public institutions with secure access to artificial intelligence operated in Switzerland. Growing use by business and the public sector underscores the need for sovereign AI solutions in Switzerland that comply with data protection regulations.
